Heat treatment experiment

I am doing an experiment with the anti-scale paint i bought from Daniel O Connor.

I polished the tang and spine before heat treatment and then applied it. The goal of the experiment is to see if the paint prevents decarb enough so that i can do all polishing before heat treatment without having adverse effects on the final etching.

It’s still too early to tell but the fact that the skin of tje tang is perfectly clean and clear is a promising sign.

Note that i protected only the tan and spine. The hollows need to be ground deeper anyway so no point in coating that part.
